About NATFHE

What does it cost to join NATFHE?

NATFHE's current monthly subscription rates are listed below - and there are even better deals if you're in your first job or join as an Associate:

• If you are in your first job in post-school education the first three months of your membership are free of charge providing you return a completed direct debit form or post-dated cheque with your application. • If you are not eligible to join NATFHE as a Member, but have an interest in education and would like to promote NATFHE's aims and objectives you can join as an Associate and pay a reduced subscription. Print out the application form available on this web site and tick the 'Associateship' box on the third sheet of the form to join as an Associate.

• If you are training to teach in FE or HE NATFHE Associateship is free until you complete your course. Apply for your free membership using our online application form.

Paying your subscription by Direct Debit saves you money, and avoids some of your subscription being used by the bank for clearing cheques. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly or annually; multiply the monthly 'by Direct Debit' figures above by three or 12 to calculate the quarterly or annual rates respectively. If you decide to pay by this method, and want to use the application form that you can print from this web site, please fill in the Direct Debit form on the fourth page of the form (you may wish to detach and keep the Direct Debit guarantee).

Alternatively, cheque payments are accepted for a full year's subscriptions only; multiply the monthly 'by cheque' figure by 12 to calculate the annual rate. If you join during the year, multiply this figure by the number of months remaining in the year (including the current month) to calculate your subscription (for example, if you join during September multiply the 'by cheque' figure by four). Thereafter the annual subscription is due on 1 January.

Please ensure that you are paying the correct subscription; failure to do so may disqualify you from receiving legal advice and other benfits.

Tax relief Thanks to NATFHE's status as a professional organisation, members can claim tax relief on four-fifths of their subscription (excluding the political and sustentation funds element). Click here for details.

Political Fund The subscription rates for Members above include a contribution of 10p a month to NATFHE's political fund, used to finance a variety of campaigning activities. NATFHE is not affiliated to a political party.
• If you work in England or Wales and do not wish to contribute you should complete an exemption notice from your NATFHE branch secretary, NATFHE Head Office or the Certification Officer, and return it with your application form. Your subscription will be the appropriate rate above minus 10p a month.
• If you work in Northern Ireland and wish to contribute, the law requires you to complete a contracting-in notice available from your NATFHE branch secretary or Head Office and return it with your application for membership. If you do not decide to contract in your subscription will be the appropriate rate above minus 10p a month.

Sustentation Fund The subscription rates for Members above include a contribution of 39p a month NATFHE's Sustentation Fund, used to support members taking industrial action and cannot be used for any other purpose except by decision of NATFHE'S National Executive.

Teacher Support Network Members are encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the Teacher Support Network, which helps colleagues in times of unforeseen financial hardship. For more details, please telephone Teacher Support Line: 0800 562 561 (England) or 08000 855 088 (Wales) or visit www.teachersupport.info.
