Pay Deal 2003/5

FROM AUGUST 2004

• Movement to a new pay spine at the next highest point

• A new 8-point pay range for qualified lecturers (each progression point worth an increase of 6%.)

• A maximum salary of £30,705 for qualified lecturers and a starting salary of 20,283

• A 4-point pay range for unqualified lectures with each progression point worth an increase of 6%

• A starting salary of £16,002 for unqualified lecturers and a maximum of £19116

• A new salary range for Advanced Teaching and Training with pay progression up to £34566.

ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS

The following National Framework Agreements have been negotiated:

Job evaluation
A national agreement establishing guidelines on the use of job evaluation by colleges including the terms of trade union involvement.

Performance management
National guidelines for colleges on establishing policies and procedures to meet institutional performance management criteria required under the Success for All funding arrangements. This does not entail Performance Related Pay, to which we are opposed, but developmental review and support systems. (Detailed guidance has been sent to branches.)

Development and use of Career Families and Career Pathways in Further Education Colleges
National guidance on where jobs fit into the new salary ranges. It is based on FENTO and SSC occupational standards and qualifications and covers lecturing, advanced teaching and management grades.
