NATFHE works closely with other unions on matters of common concern, often jointly lobbying government and other bodies on employment and educational issues.

NATFHE was the first teachers' union to join the Trades Union Congress , and sends delegates to the TUC's annual congress and to its women's and black members conferences.

The union has a joint partnership agreement with the Educational Institute of Scotland and liaison committees with the Association of University Teachers (AUT) , National Union of Teachers (NUT) , National Association of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) , and UNISON .
