NATFHE's Universities Department includes a dedicated team of staff at both national and regional level with expertise of working in the higher education system. They implement the policies and priorities determined by our HE members through our democratic lay structures.

Roger Kline (Head of Universities Department)
Responsible for co-ordinating NATFHE's HE work at both national and regional level, liaising with the press, government and other external bodies. Roger is also responsible for national pay and conditions negotiations, and development of NATFHE's industrial relations policy.

Sharon Russell (Universities Departmental Administrator)
Responsible for - general enquiries, information, running universities department office, responsibility for committee and sector conference administration.

Andy Pike (National Official)
Deputises for Roger Kline on industrial relations, and assists with policy development, research and information, and HE equal opportunities work. Andy is also responsible for maintaining liaison with regions and branches.

Liz Allen (National Official)
Specialising in policy work, including teaching and learning, governance and research, and is also a member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching Transitional Council.

Paul Bennett (National Official)
Responsible for AUT/NATFHE relations, international links, teacher education, and the GTC.

REGIONAL OFFICES

The Universities Department has regional teams dedicated to our higher education work. Regional Office staff primarily support branch officers in local negotiations and individual cases.

Members should try to contact their NATFHE Branch Officer before contacting their Regional Official. Members will be referred back to their branch officer if they have not made contact. Only in exceptional circumstances - for example, if your branch officer is off sick or on annual leave, or you have a complaint against a branch officer - should you contact your Regional Official. Branch Officers are ideally placed to deal with most internal institutional issues since they have experience of working in your institution and the way it operates. In addition, it helps to improve the overall efficiency by ensuring that issues being dealt with by Regional Offices are those where a branch genuinely needs help and support.
