In this section you will find information on the new Pay Framework Agreement for the Modernisation of Higher Education Pay Structures. The framework agreement was negotiated over a two year period and was finalised in March 2004. It requires trade unions and employers to implement a new HE pay structure by 1 August 2006. The main features of the agreement are that all staff will be paid according to rates on a national pay spine, academic staff are graded according to a national grading structure called 'Appendix C' which is supported by a library of national academic role profiles setting out the nature of academic roles within each of the new grades. For the first time hourly paid lecturers are guaranteed equal treatment with full time and fractional colleagues and will receive increments and other benefits. NATFHE is monitoring the implementation of the agreement and providing support and training to local branch activists to enable them to negotiate acceptable terms for implementation within each post-1992 institution. This section of the web site is intended to provide a range of information on the framework, how it works and what it will mean for academic staff.
