Trade Union Facilities
Branch activists must be empowered to provide information to members,
educate, develop solidarity and mobilise where necessary. To do this
they need time, resources and training. Good trade union facilities
arrangements are a must in every branch.
NATFHE has published a guide to provide practical help for
branch officers and representatives to improve their facilities and
time off provisions. Strong organisation is the key to good facilities
arrangements. Achieving better arrangements at any given time will
involve a range of activities and tactics. An understanding of the
legal position will assist in negotiations and provide a fall back
position should it be necessary. The guide Trade Union Facilities be downloaded as a pdf file or Word document, and contains the following sections:
• A framework for understanding our rights
• Facilities and Time Off Agreements
• What can we do if we don’t have a facilities agreement, or we are not happy with the one we have?
• Time off
• What other facilities should we have?
• Good practice and suggested clauses
• What does the law say about our facilities time?
