HE members accept 3% - but demand a fair slice of universities’ new income

NATFHE members in higher education have voted to accept a 3% increase for 2005 - but agreed to mount a campaign for a significant pay increase in 2006, demanding that a third of top-up fees and other new university income is spent on pay.

Members voted by a margin of seven to one to accept the pay offer and launch the campaign.

HE PAY CLAIM 2005

The joint academic unions submitted a detailed claim for 11.2% which included a 6% catch up element for the substantial slippage in comparative pay, including that identified by the Bett report and agreed universally by politicians and employers. We also sought increases in London weighting and improvements throughout the pay spine and at the top. The support staff unions submitted a parallel claim for a 'substantial' increase.

The academic staff unions' claim can be downloaded as a Word document.
