HE colleagues (in both NATFHE & AUT) have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in support of their current pay claim. As a result HE NATFHE branches and AUT associations are in dispute and will be taking strike action on 7 March.
All FE branches are urged to demonstrate maximum solidarity with HE colleagues, both NATFHE and AUT, in your area. Please make contact with your local HE counterparts as soon as possible to pledge your branch’s support and discuss practical ways to assist them on 7 March and more broadly during the dispute.
A letter has been sent to HE branches offering the support of the Colleges Department and indicating some ways in which FE branches might assist at a local level including:
- visiting picket lines and attending local rallies
- writing to local MPs
- sending messages of support to university local associations and branches.
Barry Lovejoy, Head of Colleges Department, said:
'As we move towards merger with the AUT on 1 June, this dispute is an ideal opportunity for us to show that together we are stronger and that the University and Colleges Union will be a force to be reckoned with in further and higher education.'
