Strike ballot opens at sixteen colleges
Lecturers in Northern Ireland’s sixteen further education colleges are being balloted on industrial action for the second time in just over a year. Lecturers are angry over the failure of the colleges to honour promises to raise their pay to the level of schoolteachers in Northern Ireland. In 2001, and again in 2004, the employers (College Employers Forum) agreed to put in place pay arrangements for an upper pay spine similar to that awarded to schoolteachers but these have never been implemented.
